We have a massive range of chimney cowls in stock from all the major manufacturers, including Colt Cowls, Midtec Prodcts, Brewer Cowls, MAD Cowls, Eurocowl, Windkat etc.
We've split them into four sections in order to make selection easier.
Have a look at the information tabs to see the main functions of each type of chimney cowl.
Static chimney cowls are the simplest of chimney cowls. They are generally designed to protect the chimney top from birds, vermin, leaves etc. They will also keep out some rain.
We also have a couple of unique cowls in this section. The Brewer Top Stop incorporates a damper, enabling you to close off the chimney top when not in use. The Spark Arrester is designed for shingle or thatched roofs, and has a double mesh.
Anti downdraught chimney cowls keep out the birds, vermin, leaves etc. Because of their design, they also generally keep out more rain than static chimney cowls do.
The main function of static anti downdraught chimney cowls however, is to reduce or eliminate downdraught in your chimney. Please note that these cowls are not deigned to increase the draw in your chimney stack at all.
Many customers choose one of these cowls over a static cowl, as you get more rain protection, and will reduce or eliminate any downdraught problems.
Revolving chimney cowls tend to be the most misunderstood product. They will keep out birds, vermin, leaves etc, and will keep out most of the rain.
Revolving cowls are guaranteed to eliminate downdraught in your chimney stack. When the wind blows, they revolve, and wind can't enter the stack.
Important:- Revolving chimney cowls will not solve draw issues with your chimney stack. Whilst it's true to say that they may create a very tiny draw when revolving, it's not anywhere near enough to solve updraught problems. Please read the warnings against each product.
Disused chimney cowls are designed to cap off disused chimneys.
They will keep out birds, vermin, leaves etc, and will keep out all of the rain. They are designed to allow a little ventilation, which is required to prevent damp build up within your chimney stack.
These cowls are money-savers too, as they will reduce the amount of heat lost up the chimney, compared to an open chimney top.
These cowls are for use only where the the chimney is not serving any appliance.
